Lumberjacks Improve Win Streak to Seven with 7-0 Victory at Lewis-Clark State College

LEWISTON, Idaho (April 1, 2023) - The Lumberjacks capitalized on the second match of the three-match road stretch this week, knocking the Lewis-Clark State Warriors in a 7-0 match, marking the team's seventh straight victory of the season.

While improving to 15-2, NAU dominated the Warriors, starting the day with a three-court doubles sweep. Shifting the lineup around a bit, Piotr Galus and Alex Groves moved up to the No. 1 position, picking up their fourth straight victory as a duo. Galus and Groves paved their way to a 6-2 win against the Warriors' Maksim Matyrnyi and Dan Felker.

Keeping the ball rolling through doubles play, Facundo Tumosa and Maikel De Boes swept Declan Townsend and Austin Swing in a 6-0 victory at the No. 2 position. Dominik Buzonics and Daniel Dillon earned their fifth overall doubles victory together at the No. 3, earning a tiebreak win, 7-6 (7-5), to Daniel Tevez and Itaru Kikuchi.

Moving on to singles play, De Boes returned to the lineup at the No. 1 spot after sitting out of singles play against Eastern Washington. De Boes' match facing Felker went to three sets, where the freshman picked up a 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (7-6) victory. Tumosa faced off against Townsend at the No. 2, also going to three sets as the graduate student claimed a 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 victory.

Courts two through six showcased dominant efforts, with all four Lumberjacks picking up two-set victories. Galus played his match against Kikuchi at the No. 3, finding a quick 6-2, 6-2 win. Buzonics picked up his tenth singles victory of the season without dropping a single point in a 6-0, 6-0 match to Austin Swing.

With his twelfth singles win of the season, Dani Torres put up a 6-1, 6-1 match to Matyrnyi. Groves followed suit with a 6-1, 6-0 victory to Tevez at the No. 6, marking Groves' 10th singles win this season.

The Lumberjacks will close out the weekend with another Big Sky opponent tomorrow as the Jacks take on the defending tournament champions, the Idaho Vandals, at 10 a.m. MST.
