ARLINGTON, Texas (July 18, 2023) -- The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) announced the 2023 Academic All-WAC honorees for spring sports, along with freshmen and transfer student-athletes from all 2022-23 conference sports, on Tuesday.
In addition to NAU's 20 student-athletes honored on the 2023 Winter WAC All-Academic team, six freshman earned all-academic accolades after completing their first full year of competition and academics.
To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests.
The success in the classroom is accompanied by the Jacks 10th straight WAC championship. Claiming a decade of dominance, the Lumberjacks win their 10th straight WAC conference title, ending the conference meet with a total of 835 points. NAU set its program record for points scored at a WAC Championship meet, with the highest from a WAC team since 2011 where Boise State also finished with 835.
The Jacks broke the WAC record for most consecutive years winning the championship, earning the title every year since the 2013-14 season. The Jacks were previously tied with SMU with nine as the Mustangs had won the championship for nine straight years from 1997-2005.
NAU led the conference throughout the championship meet, finishing as the only team with at least one 'A' qualifying finalist in every event, marking 27 'A' final swims.
