SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Jan. 20, 2024) – Facing off for the first time since the Big Sky Championship game in March, the Northern Arizona University women's basketball team topped Sacramento State 83-66 this afternoon in Sacramento, Calif.
NAU has now won four-straight at The Nest and three-straight regular season victories over the Hornets. The Lumberjacks finish the weekend 2-0 and improve to 12-6 overall and 4-1 in conference play, while the Hornets drop to 1-16 overall and 0-6.
Sophie Glancey led the way with her third double-double of the season with 24 points and tied her career-high 13 rebounds and three blocks. She was 9-for-15 from the field and 5-for-6 from the free throw line in 25 minutes of action.
Nyah Moran made 6-of-8 from the field for a season-high 16 points.
Olivia Moran added 13 points, seven rebounds (five offensive) and a team-high five assists. She also added a steal and was 4-for-9 from the field and 5-for-5 at the free throw line.
Emily Rodabaugh made 3-of-6 from three-point range and scored 11 points. She also recorded her 91
st career block to tie for fifth all-time in NAU history and needs just one more point to move into sixth on the all-time scoring list.
Taylor Feldman made her first career start in her home state of California and added eight points, five rebounds, four assists and a steal.
Northern Arizona out-rebounded the Hornets, 48-to-37. Both teams were even with 42 points in the paint, but the Lumberjacks drained 8-of-25 from three-point range while the Hornets were 2-for-16. From the field, NAU made 30-of-67 (44.8%) and Sacramento State was 25-for-72 (34.7%). At the free throw line, the Lumberjacks went 15-for-17 compared to 14-for-16 for the Hornets.

The Lumberjacks exploded for 37 points in the first quarter, shooting 71.4 percent (15-21) from the field and went 5-for-8 from three-point range.
Nyah Moran scored the first five points of the game for a 5-0 run as the Hornets missed their first five shots from the field and didn't find the scoreboard until 7:48. Once the 'Jacks got hot, they were hard to stop, making six-straight field goals during the frame.
Nyah Moran would lead all players with 11 points after the first quarter on 4-for-4 from the field and was one of six Lumberjacks to score during the frame. Sacramento State shot 47.1 percent to trail 37-22 after the first 10 minutes of action.
Both sides cooled down considerably in the second quarter, with the NAU defense locking down the Hornets to keep them scoreless for over five minutes of the quarter. The Lumberjacks were held to 35.3 percent from the field during the frame but were able to lead by as many as 19 points and only allowed Sacramento State to shoot 25 percent in the quarter and 36.4 percent in the half. Northern Arizona shot 55.3 percent to lead 52-34 at the half.
The 37 points scored by NAU in the first quarter and 52 points in the half were both season highs for the Lumberjacks.
The Hornets outscored the Lumberjacks, 17-15, in the third quarter. Northern Arizona made just 5-of-16 from the field during the period but made 5-for-5 at the free throw line to fend Sacramento State off. Heading into the fourth, NAU led 67-51.

Nyah Moran and Glancey gave NAU a 6-0 run before being held scoreless for over two minutes. Northern Arizona was then held without a field goal for the final 2:40, but were able outscore the Hornets 16-15 in the frame to secure the 83-66 victory after making 6-of-6 from the free throw line during the fourth.
Northern Arizona now returns home to host Idaho (Jan. 25) and Eastern Washington (Jan. 27) at Findlay Toyota Court next week.
