Swim and Dive Returns Home for Senior Weekend vs Utah Tech

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (January 25, 2024) – The Northern Arizona Swimming and Diving team is set to return home to Wall Aquatic Center this weekend against Utah Tech as the Lumberjacks will honor 2024 seniors for the last full home meet. 
 
The Lumberjacks are coming off a split in Tucson when both squads competed in a double dual meet on Jan. 5. The Lumberjacks fell 180-117 to Arizona but were able to pick up the win against Southern Illinois by a score of 174-126. Elsa Musselman placed first in the 50-yard freestyle, with a time of 24.01 and in the 100-yard butterfly, clocking in at 56.23. Maddy Rey finished first in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:31.90 and second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:06.47. Casey Craffey finished second in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:27.26 and Francesca Criscione finished third with a time of 10:36.84, respectively. 
 
More highlights from Tucson include Sophie Velitchkov finishing third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.89 followed by Gracie Munk in fourth with a time of 58.04. Velitchkov would also place fourth in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:07.49. Delaney Phillips finished fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.77. 
 
On the diving side of things, the last time the Lumberjacks competed was at the UCLA Diving Invite, which was held Jan. 12-14. 
 
On day one of the invite, Victoria Knapp came in 15th place with a combined score of 510.70 points (244.15 in the preliminaries and 266.55 in the finals) and Reaney Preston came in 16th place with a combined score of 506.25 points (248.90 in the preliminaries and 257.35 in the finals). 
 
On day two, Margaret Wesche came in 9th place with a final combined score of 551.45 points. Mackenna Stocker was three points out from making the finals and Grace Wesche was eight points out from making the finals. 
 
To close things out on day three, Mackenna Stocker led the way for NAU in 16th place in the preliminaries with a score of 206.60 points. Stocker was just 3.75 points and four places out from making the finals. 
 
Maegan Jensen's performance at the invite earned her WAC Diver of the Week last week on Jan. 17. Jensen made the finals on both Friday and Saturday in Los Angeles. On Friday, she came in 14th place in the finals with a combined score of 511.25 in the 1-meter event. On Saturday, Jensen also made the finals in the 3-meter and came in 11th place with a combined score of 551.45. 

This weekend, swimming will compete in a dual meet on Friday and Saturday against Utah Tech, while diving will hold an exhibition showcase both days. 
 
Last time the Jacks and the Trailblazers met, NAU picked up a 168-133 win in St. George, Utah. NAU is 6-1 on the season and Utah Tech is 2-0 in dual meets this season. Both squads have a victory over Idaho. This is only the third dual meet for the Trailblazers this season. 
 
Friday's meet will feature the 200 Medley Relay, 200 Butterfly, 200 Backstroke, 200 Breaststroke, 100 Individual Medley and the 400 Freestyle Relay. Diving will take place throughout the meet. 

Saturday's meet will feature the 400 Medley Relay, 1000 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle, 50 Backstroke, 50 Breaststroke, 100 Butterfly, 50 Freestyle, Diving, 100 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke, 100 Breaststroke, 500 Freestyle, 50 Butterfly, 200 Individual Medley, a 400 IM exhibition heat, and the 200 Freestyle Relay. 

The Lumberjacks will honor eight senior swimmers and two divers this weekend. Kendall Carlson, Annie Carlton, Caylah Jago, Maegan JensenDelaney Phillips, Reaney Preston, Maddy Rey, Abigail Tashlein, Sophie Velitchkov and Emma Warner will all be recognized prior to Friday's meet. 

Friday's senior day celebration is set to begin at 4 p.m., followed by the meet. Saturday's meet will kick off at 11 a.m.
