FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Nov. 10, 2024) – After opening the season with two road games, the Northern Arizona women's basketball team kicks off its home slate on Monday, Nov. 11 when it hosts Fort Lewis College at the Rolle Activity Center in Flagstaff, Ariz. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. Mountain Standard time on ESPN+.

The Lumberjacks have won their past six home openers at the Rolle Activity Center and are looking to improve to 2-1 for the first time since 2020-21.
 
Northern Arizona is 1-1 on the young season after a pair of games against Mountain West Conference opponents. NAU opened the year with an 80-78 win at New Mexico where Sophie Glancey hit the game-winning shot to help the Lumberjacks come back from a 13-point deficit.
 
Most recently, Northern Arizona is coming off an 85-71 loss at UNLV. Both squads were tied after the first quarter, but the Rebels created some space for a 44-32 lead at the half. Northern Arizona worked to cut the game down to single digits entering the fourth quarter but were outscored 21-16 in the final frame for the loss. Although NAU had a better shooting percentage than the Rebels, turnovers and foul trouble inflicted the Lumberjacks, as they committed 18 turnovers and 19 personal fouls.
 
Fort Lewis is 1-1 after opening its season with consecutive home games over the weekend. The Skyhawks compete at the Division II level in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). Monday's contest will be an exhibition for the Skyhawks.
 
Through two games, four Lumberjacks average double figures led by Glancey with 17.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. Against UNLV, Glancey came away with the seventh double-double of her career with 18 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out with 3:14 left. She is currently second in the Big Sky Conference in both points and rebounds per game while ranking third in field goal percentage.
 
Fellow junior Taylor Feldman has also scored in double figures in both contests to average 14.0 points and 4.0 assists per contest. Nyah Moran is coming off an 18-point performance at UNLV and is averaging 13.5 points per game, while Leia Beattie rounds things out with 12.0 points, 6.5 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game.
 
Northern Arizona and Fort Lewis used to meet twice a year in the 1980's when the Lumberjacks were members of the Intermountain Conference. The Lumberjacks lead the all-time series 8-1, including a perfect 6-0 in Flagstaff. The last meeting took place on Nov. 29, 2014 in Flagstaff where NAU won 61-43.
 
The Skyhawks are led by Lauren Davis who is in her first season as a head coach. Darla Hernandez leads FLC with 10.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, while Livia Knapp averages 4.0 assists. As a team, Fort Lewis is averaging 50.5 points per game and shooting 33 percent from the field. In 2023-24, FLC finished 12-16 overall and 9-13 in RMAC play.
 
NAU head coach Loree Payne is in her eighth year at the helm and needs eight more victories to become the program's all-time winningest coach. The Lumberjacks are third in the Big Sky with 75.5 points per game and lead the league with 9.0 triples per contest. They are fourth in the conference with 18.5 assists per game.
 
The stay at home will be brief, as NAU heads back out on the road to face West Coast Conference foe Pacific in Stockton, Calif., on Sunday, Nov. 17. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. Mountain Standard time. The Lumberjacks went a perfect 4-0 against the WCC last season including a 96-65 victory over the Tigers.
