FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (February 5, 2024) – The NAU track & field team had two athletes earn Big Sky Athlete of the Week honors following strong performances at the third annual Ron Mann Classic.
Garret Bernt was named Big Sky Men's Field Athlete of the Week after breaking his own school and conference record in the weigh throw after recording a mark of 22.05 meters. His throw earned him the event win and puts him at 10
th in the nation in the event.
Ruby Smee was named Big Sky Women's Track Athlete of the Week after a strong performance in the mile. She ran a time of 4:52.05 to finish in third place. Smee is ranked sixth in the Big Sky in the mile behind her NAU teammates. She also competed in the 3,000-meter, winning the event with a time of 9:58.24 putting her at third in the conference in the event.
The 'Jacks are on the road this week as they split up to go to three separate meets. The team will send groups to the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, Mass., the Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., and the Husky Classic in Settle, Wash.
