Lumberjacks Secure 4-0 Victory Against New Mexico

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (March 23, 2024) – NAU Men's Tennis (10-5, 2-0) extended its home win streak to four-straight while remaining undefeated in Flagstaff this season as well yet to drop a point with home court advantage as the Lumberjacks have swept all four matches at the NAU Tennis Center to open the season.

"Doubles was the key to set the tone early, the guys were mentally tough and carried the momentum to a really good team victory today," head coach Maciej Bogusz said.

Doubles play would prove to be crucial for the Jacks as all three courts came down to close matches while the Lumberjacks and the Lobos battled for the first point of the day. Dani Torres and Maciej Ziomber dropped the first point of the match before bouncing back to a 3-1 lead and closing out the match at 6-4 at court two.

Semen Agynskyy and Maikel De Boes took a 2-0 start on court three before things tied up at 3-3 and NAU's pairing went on to clinch the doubles point for the Jacks in a 6-4 final. At the No. 3, De Boes jumped out to a 2-0 start, going to close the first set out at 6-3 while seeking a two-set victory to give the Jacks their second point of the match. Ziomber quickly found a 2-0 lead while representing the Jacks in the No. 6 slot, closing out the first set at 6-4. With a close 3-2 lead in the second set, Ziomber went on to pick up a 6-2 second set victory to put the Jacks up 3-0.

Torres grabbed a break to take the first lead of singles play for the Jacks at the No. 2, jumping out to a 3-0 advantage before taking the first set at 6-4. Trailing 1-4 in the second set, Torres would fall 4-6 before beginning a third set. The No. 2 match would go unfinished at 6-4, 4-6, 0-3.
