FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (March 28, 2024) – NAU Men's Tennis (11-5, 2-0) extended their win streak to three matches as they defeated Dayton 4-0. The team remains undefeated on their home courts, sweeping their fifth match at home this season.
"I was very impressed with the attitude and how they came out," said head coach
Maciej Bogusz. "Doubles came down to tiebreaks on a couple courts, but I felt like the longer the match went on we were able to make certain adjustments to close out the sets and come back on a couple courts we were down."
The Lumberjacks began doubles play with close matches, eventually earning the first point of the day.
Dominik Buzonics and
Jakub Prachar initially fell down 1-2 early in their match on court one before pulling away for an eventual 6-4 victory.
Dani Torres and
Maciej Ziomber saw a back-and-forth match on court two, pushing things to a tiebreaker and clinching the doubles point 7-6 (7-5).
Semen Agynskyy and
Maikel De Boes also saw a close match on court three, seeing a 6-6 tiebreaker before the match was left unfinished to move on to singles play.
Buzonics saw a solid start at No. 1, taking a quick 3-2 lead in the first set before closing it out 6-4. Opening up the second set 2-1, Buzonics held the lead the rest of the set before earning NAU's first singles point with a 6-3 victory.
De Boes overcame a 1-3 start in the first set on court three, seeing a 5-0 run to win the set 6-3. De Boes saw a close second set with the score tied 2-2 early, eventually adding another point to NAU's lead with a 6-2 win.
At the No. 5, Agynskyy took an early 2-0 advantage, leading the whole way and closing out the first set 6-3. Taking a quick 3-2 lead in the second set, Agynskyy clinched the match for the 'Jacks with a 6-4 victory.
Torres fell behind 2-4 in the first set on court two, battling it back to 4-5 before eventually dropping the set 4-6. Quickly getting out to a 2-1 lead in the second set, Torres saw an easy 6-2 victory to push the match to a third set. In the third set, Torres led 1-0 before the match was left unfinished.
Prachar opened the first set on court four 0-1, eventually tying it 2-2 before dropping the set 3-6. Easily jumping to a 3-0 lead in the second set, Prachar took an easy 6-1 win. The No. 4 match would go unfinished at 3-6, 6-1, 1-1.
Ziomber saw a strong first set on court six, grabbing the 2-1 lead early before closing out the first set 6-3. Following a 5-4 lead from Ziomber, the match was left unfinished.
