Men’s Tennis Falls 4-3 at Weber State

OGDEN, Utah (March 31, 2024) – Grabbing the doubles point would prove to not be quite enough for the Jacks as singles play swung in the favor of the Wildcats, while the Jacks (11-6, 2-1) lost 4-3 in the lone road trip game to Weber State this weekend.

Jakub Prachar and Dominik Buzonics brought in NAU's first doubles victory of the day with a 6-3 win over WSU's top pairing of Elyes Marouani and Tristan Sarap. Maciej Ziomber and Dani Torres followed suit at the No. 2 slot, picking up a 7-6 (7-4) victory for the first point of the match, defeating Connor Kruger and Jordan Coutinho. Maikel De Boes and Semen Agynskyy's match was tied 6-6 at the No. 3 before the teams moved on to singles play, leaving the match unfinished.

Weber State's Marouani tied the match back up at 1-1 with the first singles victory of the day, defeating Buzonics in back-to-back 6-4 sets at the No. 2. Sarap followed for the WSU lead, taking the victory over Torres at the No. 1 with a 6-4, 0-6, 6-4 win. Agynskyy then grabbed a tiebreak victory at the No. 4 while matched up with Coutinho, earning the 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) advantage for the Jacks.

De Boes would then bring in NAU's last victory of the day with a 7-6, 0-6, 6-2 win over Kruger at the No. 3. William Zulch tied the match at 3-3 with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over NAU's Prachar, while the match would come down to court No. 6 as Ziomber dropped to Tuan Minh in a 4-6, 6-2, 4-6 final.

NAU will return to Flagstaff to host Eastern Washington and Idaho State for a pair of weekend matches as the Jacks will look to bounce back in the win column. To stay up to date with NAU Tennis, follow the Jacks on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
