FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (May 23, 2024) – Putting the student in student-athlete, the Northern Arizona University athletic department is celebrating a successful Spring semester in the classroom.
Together, Lumberjack student-athletes earned a grade point average (GPA) of 3.411 with 12 teams earning a GPA of a 3.2 or higher. Additionally, women's cross country, swimming and diving, soccer, volleyball and women's track turned in a GPA over 3.6.
Individually, 54% of the student-athlete body made the Dean's List, the highest-ever in department history with one out of every two student-athletes making the list. Ten teams had at least 50 percent of their roster on the Dean's List, with 87 student-athletes earning perfect 4.0 GPAs.
The NAU football program also celebrates its accomplishment of earning a 3.296 GPA, the highest in program history.
Seventy Northern Arizona student-athletes earned their degrees and graduated following the 2023-24 academic year. The department also honored 228 student-athletes at the 46
th Golden Eagle Awards, honoring all Lumberjacks with a 3.00 cumulative GPA.
Northern Arizona student-athletes were recognized at the conference level as well. Nearly 100 student-athletes were named to their respective Fall and Winter All-Big Sky Academic Teams with the Spring announcement yet to be released. In April, 23 student-athletes on the swimming and diving teams were named to the Western Athletic Conference Winter Sports Academic All-Conference Team.
The work in classroom has paid off in competition as well, as the men's programs recently earned its league-leading 18th Big Sky Conference All-Sports Trophy and the women finished runner up. As a department, Northern Arizona claimed seven conference championships in 2023-24.
