NEW ORLEANS, La. (Aug. 27, 2024) – The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its Preseason National Cross Country Coaches' Poll on Tuesday afternoon and the Northern Arizona women's squad found themselves at the top.

NAU tied for first in the women's poll along with NC State, who the Lumberjacks finished runner-up to by one point at last year's NCAA National Championships. Each squad received five first-place votes.

Notre Dame, Oregon and Washington rounded out the top-five on the women's side.

Although the NAU men received its lowest preseason ranking since 2016, they still landed in the top-five, coming in at No. 4 behind Oklahoma State, BYU and Arkansas. Oklahoma State, the defending National Champions who the Lumberjacks finished runner up to last season, earned all 11 first-place votes.

Both the Lumberjack men and women were project to win the Big Sky Conference unanimously. The Montana State men's team was the other Big Sky school ranked on the men's side, coming in at No. 25. Â
