FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Aug 6, 2024) – Northern Arizona's
Ryan Abelman has been appointed as a member of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Student-Athlete Engagement Group and will serve as the one representative for the Big Sky Conference.
"Being entrusted to work alongside the NCAA as a student-athlete is a big deal, and something we're always excited to see here at the conference office," Big Sky Commissioner Tom Wistrcill said. "We want to congratulate Ryan on his appointment and wish him the best of luck. He is a wonderful young man, and I know he will make the whole conference proud with what he accomplishes as part of the Men's Basketball Student-Athlete Engagement Group."
Abelman's appointment to the NCAA committee comes as no surprise to NAU's staff as the Las Vegas native has proven himself to be a natural leader of the Lumberjack squad.
"Ryan has been an outstanding young man for our program since he stepped foot on campus, he is always pushing himself to the best he can and always encouraging everyone around him," head coach
Shane Burcar said. "We are excited for this opportunity for him and looking forward to see what he accomplishes in this next year."
Abelman will serve on the committee through June 30, 2025. The committee was established in 2023 with the goal of amplifying student-athlete voices in basketball on key initiatives, legislation, and issues.
