FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (January 26, 2025) – NAU Men's Tennis grabbed a 5-0 victory against the UC Riverside Highlanders to finish the weekend and start the season, 2-0.
In the doubles part of the match, the Lumberjacks claimed the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. No. 2 doubles pair of
Piotr Galus and Mateusz Lange were the first to finish by getting a 6-2 win. The pair found themselves down 2-1 and would win the next five games to take the set.
The duo of
Takumi Katsuda and
Ivan Perisic secured the doubles point, winning in a set that was decided by one break, 6-4. The No. 1 doubles team of
Jakub Prachar and
Dani Torres ended unfinished. The team was up a break at 5-4 in the set.
In singles, Torres was the first Lumberjack to finish, picking up a bagel in his 6-0, 6-3 win. Torres' game was strong all around with little to no weak spots.
Prachar also had a strong performance getting a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Prachar lost the first game of the win and moved the NAU advantage to 3-0.
Lange got a straight-set 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 5 position. The win confirmed Lange's second win in the blue and gold and notched the team victory for NAU at 4-0.
Katsuda was the final player to finish grabbing a 6-2, 6-1 win, adding an extra point to end the day with a 5-0 Lumberjacks victory.
Head Coach
Maciej Bogusz said he is happy with the team starting 2-0.
"It's a great way to start the season," said Bogusz. "I am really happy with the team performance."
