FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (October 17, 2025) – The Northern Arizona Astrojacks fought to a 1-1 draw with Weber State in Big Sky Conference action on Thursday evening. Prior to the match, NAU honored eight seniors for their commitments to the Astrojacks soccer program.
Micala Boex was the goal scorer for NAU (4-4-6, 1-2-2 Big Sky), tallying her seventh goal on the season.
Valerie Llamas provided the assist on Boex's goal for her third helper of the season, with
Avery Ott leading the way in shots with four.
Reece Reichwald made her 13th start between the posts, playing all 90 minutes while making a career-high ten saves. Shots were nearly even in the first half, with Weber State (9-6-1, 3-2-1 Big Sky) holding a slim 6-5 edge, but the Wildcats would take the final 16 of 22 shots in the second frame to outshoot NAU for the match, 22-11.
Weber State asked the first two questions of the game, but NAU's first test on the goalie resulted in Boex's score in the 13th minute for the early 1-0 lead. The 'Jacks remained aggressive, drawing a corner shortly after that gave Ott her first rocket that went just left of the goal.
The Wildcats took their first shot on goal in the 21st minute, followed by one on the other end by
Ella Freebury that was saved by the WSU keeper. It was an aggressive first half, with ten fouls committed between the two teams. Weber State would only manage one more shot on goal in the first 45 as the Astrojacks took a 1-0 lead into the half.
Reichwald opened the second stanza with a pair of saves in the 48th minute and 50th minutes. Lily Blum then scored her goal in the 57th minute off a pass from Tenzi Knowles to make it 1-1. Following the equalizer, much of the second half would be played in the Wildcat's attacking zone, as NAU weathered a flurry of shots and corner kicks with Reichwald rising to the occasion to make eight saves in the period. The Astrojacks backline held strong defensively to keep the game tied, as the offense searched for a game-winner.
Weber State also turned up its defensive effort, until NAU got its best opportunity at another score when Boex broke away in the 85th minute for a shot that was stopped by the keeper and kept in-bounds. Freebury got another chance for the lead, but her shot was just a tad high. Reichwald then made her final two saves of the match in the closing minutes to solidify the 1-1 draw.
NAU will return to the pitch for its final home match of 2025 on Sunday, Oct. 19 as it welcomes Idaho State to Lumberjack Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. Mountain Standard Time and can be streamed on ESPN+.
