NAU Suffers First Road Loss at Portland State

HILLSBORO, Ore. (October 9, 2025) – An 87th minute score was the difference as Northern Arizona women's soccer fell, 1-0, to Portland State in Big Sky Conference action on Thursday afternoon.

Avery Ott led the Lumberjacks (4-4-5, 1-2-1 Big Sky) offense with four shots, while Micala Boex and Kaylee Muniz both took two. Corner kicks were almost identical, with Portland State (3-6-2, 2-1 Big Sky) holding a slim 5-4 edge. NAU held a 6-5 advantage in shots at the half, but the Vikings took the final 11 of 15 shots of the contest to outshoot the 'Jacks 16-10 for the game.

Reece Reichwald made her 12th start between the posts, playing all 90 minutes and making three saves.

NAU began the match attacking aggressively, taking the first four of five shots in the contest through the opening 20 minutes. Neither goalie was tested for the remainder of the half, as shots went off-target for a 0-0 score at the break.

The Vikings then took their turn on the attack to start the second stanza, forcing Reichwald to make a pair of saves in the 51st and 64th minutes. Alexi Cataldi nearly put one past Reichwald on a free kick from midfield, but the conference leader in save percentage timed her jump just right for the save. Shortly after, Valerie Llamas made a play on defense in the open field to keep a goal opportunity away from PSU in the 66th minute as both teams looked for a score.

Ott tried to break the tie in the 77th minute with a shot off a free kick that was saved by the PSU keeper. The Vikings were then able to strike off a shot that bounced off the post, but was unable to be cleared by the Lumberjack backline before it found the back of the net. PSU was then able to defend for the win as time ran out.

With the decision, Northern Arizona suffers consecutive losses for just the first time this season through 13 matches.

NAU will return to the pitch for Senior Day as it welcomes Weber State to Lumberjack Stadium on Oct. 17. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. Mountain Standard Time and can be streamed on ESPN+.
