PORTLAND, Ore. (February 13, 2025) – NAU Basketball (14-12, 5-8) suffered a 58-46 road loss to the Portland State Vikings (15-10, 7-5) on Thursday evening as the Lumberjacks shooting goes cold, finishing 23.2 percent from the field.
A 5-0 run would get the Vikings going out the gates, forcing two early turnovers for Northern Arizona.
Carson Towt grabbed the jacks first basket of the game with the fadeaway jumper at the 18:05 mark. By the first media timeout, both teams started 50.0 percent from the field, NAU starting 2-for-4 while PSU took a 3-for-6 start.
Jayden Jackson cut Portland State's lead to just one by the under-eight timeout with NAU's first triple of the night.
Coming out of the timeout, the Vikings found themselves on a 7-0 run as NAU fell scoreless for nearly three minutes, giving the Viks a 26-17 lead at the 2:55 mark with teams in their final media timeout
NAU shot 23.1 percent from the field in the first half, going 7-9 at the free throw line to keep Northern Arizona within eight of the Vikings at halftime, 28-20. Jackson accounted for nine of the Jacks points while NAU went the final 9:10 on the court scoreless from the field. PSU shot 40.0 percent through the first half, led by a perfect 4-4 from the field from Tre-Vaughn Minott. Portland State led rebounds 22-18 with Towt and Minott leading the game with eight apiece.
Forcing three consecutive turnovers from Portland State's offense, NAU's scoreless stretch from the field ended with a
Trent McLaughlin mid-range jumper, bringing the Jacks within nine at 31-22 by the first timeout of the half. Down by as many as 14,
Diego Campisano hit three consecutive triples, adding two from the line to bring NAU within six just under the halfway mark of the second frame.
NAU would come within five, 45-40 but ultimately fell scoreless for the final two-and-a-half minutes on the floor for Portland State to close out on a 13-6 run. NAU was led by Campisano's 14, trailed by 11 each from Jackson and McLaughlin.
