FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (February 16, 2025) – The NAU Men's Tennis team had two matches, one against UC San Diego and the other against Western New Mexico. NAU had beat both of the schools that they played against.
The first match of the day was against the UC San Diego Tritons 4-0.
The Lumberjacks got off to a hot start by taking the doubles point by winning two out of the three matches. The No. 1 pair of
Dani Torres and
Jakub Prachar were the first players to finish in doubles, winning by just one break to get a 6-4 win. Moments later, No. 3 duo of
Takumi Katsuda and
Ivan Perisic clinched the doubles point, also getting a 6-4 win. The doubles win from Katsuda and Perisic put NAU up 1-0.
In the singles portion of the match against the Tritons,
Semen Agynskyy was the first to finish. Agynskky won in dominating fashion by not allowing his opponent to get a single game off of him as the scoreline was 6-0, 6-0.
Torres wrapped up second, beating UC San Diego's Carson Lee in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. The win from Torres moved the Lumberjacks advantage to three.
Prachar confirmed the NAU victory against the tritons when he came away with a bagel in the second set to win 6-3, 6-0.
The second match of the day for the Lumberjacks was against the Western New Mexico Mustangs, where the Lumberjacks won 6-1.
In doubles, it was smooth sailing for the Jacks as they won all three of the doubles matches. The first group to finish was on court three with Agynskyy and
Mati Lange getting a 6-2 win. Torres and Katsuda made sure the Lumberjacks won the doubles point, winning 6-3.
With NAU already winning the doubles point, the match on court one was almost done so it was finished out. The victors on that court were Prachar and
Jakub Volesky, winning by the score of 6-3.
In singles, Prachar picked up his second win of the day when he moved up to the No. 1 spot in the lineup. Prachar got a 6-0, 6-2 win over his opponent. This win moved Prachar's singles record to 6-3.
Volesky was the second Lumberjack to finish their singles match as he notched a 6-0, 6-1 win. He now has two wins as a Lumberjack with his first one coming earlier in the year against the UNLV Rebels.
Agynskyy continued his success by clinching the Lumberjack win against the Mustangs, after he won 6-0, 6-2. Agynskyy got his second win of the day and moved his singles record to 3-3.
Even though NAU had already won the match against Western New Mexico, the matches that did not finish yet still proceeded.
Ivan Perisic got his first singles win as a Lumberjack by the score line of 6-2, 6-1 win. This should hopefully be the first of many wins for Perisic as he is now 1-0 in singles.
On court two, Pitor Galus won his match over Romain Malhomme, 6-2, 6-1. The win from Galus moved the overall match score to a 6-0 lead for the Lumberjacks.
Lange made the final match of the day go the distance by forcing a third set tiebreak after losing the first set. Lange came up just a little short losing, 7-5, 0-6, 10-7.
The two wins moved the Lumberjacks' record to 5-4 thus far. Next, NAU will hit the road to take on the Portland State Vikings in their first Big Sky Conference matchup of the season.
