FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (March 16, 2025) – The NAU Men's Tennis team bested the Montana Grizzlies, 7-0, to remain undefeated in the Big Sky Conference.
The Lumberjacks won the doubles point as it came down to the wire. NAU and Montana split the matches on court one and two. Lumberjacks
Dani Torres and
Piotr Galus got the win as the No. 1 doubles team, 6-4. However, The Grizzlies grabbed the No. 2 matchup, 6-3. It all came down to court three as
Semen Agynskyy and
Takumi Katsuda found themselves down early in the match, 4-1. The duo was able to comeback and win the set 6-4 with Agynskyy getting the final serve. The doubles win put the Lumberjacks up 1-0 in the match.
In singles, Agynskyy made his match a quick one when he dominated from start to finish. Agynskyy won at the No. 3 position, 6-2, 6-0. He improves his singles record to 2-0 at the No. 3 spot and is 8-3 overall.
Mati Lange grabbed his second singles win as a Lumberjack to put them up 3-0. Lange won both sets by just one break, 6-3, 7-5. Lange is now 2-8 in singles this season with him getting his first win at the No. 6 position.
Katsuda clinched the match for the Lumberjacks after he won his match on court five. Katsuda won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. He is now 7-3 in singles this season.
Galus won his match in a way that you do not want to see as a fan or as a player. Galus' opponent retired from the match, giving Galus the win. Galus won the first set, 6-4. While his opponent was up 3-2 in the second set, he retired, which gave Galus his seventh win of the season.
Volesky extended the Lumberjack lead to six after a third set tiebreaker. Volesky notched his sixth victory of the season in singles.
Torres completed the sweep for the Lumberjacks after he came away with a three set victory, 6-4, 5-7, 10-5. Torres is now 9-3 in singles with all of the wins coming at the No. 1 position.
The win moves NAU's record to 9-6 and remains undefeated in Big Sky play at 4-0.
