FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (March 17, 2025) – The NAU men's tennis team knocked Pratt Community College twice on Monday, 6-1 in the first match and 4-0 in the second.
In the first match the Lumberjacks started hot by winning the doubles point. All the doubles matches were decided by one break with NAU winning all three of them. The No. 1 duo of
Dani Torres and
Piotr Galus and the No. 2 doubles team of
Jakub Volesky and
Mati Lange won, 6-4. On court three
Takumi Katsuda and
Ivan Perisic won, 7-5.
After winning the doubles point, NAU built upon their 1-0 lead. Galus had a very quick match where he won in straight sets in dominating fashion, 6-0, 6-1.
Lange got the second singles win in the match for the Lumberjacks, beating his opponent in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3.
Volesky followed suit not much longer after Lange to clinch the match for NAU after a 6-1, 6-4 win. Volesky's victory put the Lumberjacks up 4-0 on top of the beavers.
NAu closed out the match by winning two more singles matches.
Kai Mills had a close first set in his match but was able to pull away in the second to win, 7-5, 6-1. This was Mills' first match win as a Lumberjack.
The final singles win of the match came from
Takumi Katsuda who won it in a third set tiebreak, 5-7, 6-0, 10-4.
The only win that PCC got was on court six where Perisic fell to Thiofhi Tshivhase in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
In the second match of the day, which started an hour after the first one ended, NAU got started the same way as they did in the first, by winning the doubles point. The No. 1 doubles team of Galus and Torres grabbed a quick 6-1 win. No. 3 duo of
Semen Agynskyy and Katsuda grabbed a bagel in their win, 6-0.
In the singles portion of the second match, Volesky grabbed the first singles point to move the NAU lead to 2-0. With the two singles wins against PCC, he moved his singles record to 8-3.
Katsuda got his second singles win of the day by winning at the No. 4 position in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Katsuda's singles record is now 9-3.
Persic rounded out the day by clinching the final match of the day for an NAU victory, 4-0. Perisic won his match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
The two wins over PCC moved the Lumberjacks record to 11-6.
