FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (March 29, 2025) – The NAU Women's Tennis team beat the Montana Grizzlies, 7-0 to move their streak to nine wins in a row.
The Lumberjacks kicked the day off by taking the doubles point, winning two out of the three doubles matches.
Andrea Noguera and
Ruslana Kovalenko got doubles started with a 6-2 victory at the No. 3 position. Moments later,
Daryna Shoshyna and
Elen Jantacova fell to Grace Haugen and Rosie Sterk, 6-4, with both schools winning one doubles match. It all came down to the finals doubles match on court two which saw
Patrycja Niewiadomska and
Laura Duhl pull out a victory in a tiebreaker, 7-6(6) and secured the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead over Montana.
The strong play continued from the Lumberjacks in singles as they won all of the singles matches.
Noguera was the first lumberjack to finish a singles match, as she came away with double breadsticks, 6-1, 6-1. Nogurera now has a record of 12-2 in singles.
Finishing up roughly two minutes after Noguera, Jantacova got a win at the No. 4 position, 6-1, 6-2. The freshman is undefeated in Big Sky play with 5 wins, while her overall singles record is 11-3.
Kovalenko got her sixth singles win in straight sets at the No. 6 spot in the lineup, 6-2, 6-1. Kovalenko has only played nine singles matches this season and has accomplished winning five of them in straight sets. Kovalenko's win also clinched the victory for NAU to take a 4-0 advantage.
Shoshyna grabbed a straight sets win, 6-1, 6-2. She has moved her singles record this season to an impressive 14-1. The only loss from Shoshyna was against Wyoming.
Leontina Stojanovic Was the final Lumberjack to get a straight set win, 6-1, 6-4. Stojanovic won the last set by one break.
Niewiadomska confirmed that the Lumberjacks would sweep the Grizzlies after her three set win in which she dominated the third set tiebreak only losing one point, 3-6, 6-2, 10-1.
NAU moves their overall record to 12-3 and remain atop of the Big Sky Conference with an undefeated 6-0 record. The next match for the Lumberjacks, they will take on the Sacramento State Hornets on April 5 in Flagstaff.
