WAIPAHU, Hawai'i (August 28, 2025) – Behind a hat trick from senior
Avery Ott, the Northern Arizona women's soccer team collected its first road win of 2025, 4-2, over Hawai'i on Thursday evening.
Ott led the Lumberjack (2-1-1) attack, with
Micala Boex netting the other goal for NAU.
Madisyn Marchesi and
Valerie Llamas provided assists in the 'Jacks' highest scoring match this season. Tatum Porter and Krista Peterson each netted a goal for Hawai'i (1-3-1), who held a 20-16 advantage in shots.
Reece Reichwald made her second consecutive start and played all 90 minutes while making nine saves for a career high. NAU held a 9-2 advantage in saves.
The opening minutes were jam-packed, with
Olivia Bos and Boex each firing off a shot in the first two minutes. Hawai'i was aggressive as well, scoring its first goal in the fifth minute, but NAU responded in the same minute with Ott's first score to make it 1-1 early.
The contest continued in similar fashion as the first two goals, as the Rainbow Wahine grabbed a 2-1 advantage in the eighth minute, only to see it equalized by Boex's goal in the ninth minute off Llamas' assist.
Action steadied for the next several minutes until Ott secured her second career brace with the helper provided by Marchesi in the 18th minute to give NAU a 3-2 lead going into the break.
Reichwald made a save in the 54th minute to open the second stanza as the 'Jacks held onto a one-goal lead. The defense remained strong as the freshman made two more saves in the 57th and 58th minutes to keep the advantage.
Although the Lumberjacks only produced six shots in the second half, the defense locked down the Hawai'i attack until Ott netted her third goal in the 84th minute to put away the match for NAU.
Ott becomes the fifth player in program history to record a hat trick. The Lumberjacks now have five players with at least one goal or point this season, and also collect their first win against the Rainbow Wahine, evening the all-time series to 1-1.
NAU will wrap up its time in Hawai'i with a neutral contest against South Dakota State on Sunday at 3 p.m., before continuing a stretch of road matches that will take the 'Jacks to UC Irvine on Sep. 7 and Southern Utah on Sep. 12. Both of those matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
