NAU Golf Returns to Action in Las Cruces

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (October 11, 2026) - The Northern Arizona women's golf team returns to action at the NMSU Golf Iconic Classic from Oct. 12-14 at the New Mexico State University Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M. The course will play at 6,420 yards as a par 72. Live scoring will be available on Clippd Scoreboard.

Each round will begin at 7:15 a.m. MST in a shotgun fashion. Northern Arizona will begin the first round on holes one through five, teeing it up alongside the host New Mexico State, UTEP and CSU Northridge.

At last year's tournament, the 'Jacks surged to second place, saving their best round for last as they climbed from seventh with a total score of 857 (-7). NAU was the only team to finish the final round under par despite challenging weather conditions.

Boise State claimed the team title at 13-under par, while the Broncos' Leia Chung earned individual medalist honors by one stroke after rounds of 70 (-2), 68 (-4) and 69 (-3).

Frankie Dezis is the lone returning Lumberjack from last year's tournament, where she tied for 36th individually at 4-over par with rounds of 73, 71 and 76. Dezis will compete alongside Ella Zanatta, Kristyna Malinova, Gracie Heinle and Martyna Muchajer in this year's team lineup, while Alexa Ouellet and Sofia Blanco will compete as individuals.

The full field includes Cal Poly, CSU Northridge, Drake, Fresno State, Houston Christian, Idaho, Idaho State, Incarnate Word, Nebraska, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado, San Diego State, Southern Utah, Tarleton State, UC Riverside, UT Arlington, UT El Paso and UT San Antonio.

Most recently, Northern Arizona competed at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic, finishing 12th out of 20 teams at 1-over par. The 'Jacks fired an 11-under-par round in the third round, moving up one spot on the leaderboard.

Zanatta led the way for Northern Arizona, carding a career-low 67 (-5) in the final round. After opening with two even-par rounds (72-72), Zanatta climbed 15 spots on the individual leaderboard to finish tied for 23rd at 5-under par.

Dezis also climbed the leaderboard, carding a 68 (-4) with seven birdies to move up 14 spots and finish tied for 34th at 2-under par (73-73-68).

Northern Arizona recorded another under-par round on the final day as Heinle returned to the clubhouse with a 2-under-par 70, tying her career-low round. With scores of 74-77-70, she finished tied for 68th.

Coming off a strong final round at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic, Northern Arizona will look to carry that momentum into Las Cruces as it continues its fall schedule. The Lumberjacks will close out the fall semester by hosting the Clash at Boulder Creek from Oct. 25-27.
