NAU Women’s Golf Finishes Sixth at NMSU Golf Iconic Classic

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (October 14, 2026) - The Northern Arizona women's golf team completed the final round of the NMSU Golf Iconic Classic with its third consecutive round of 4-over-par 292. The Lumberjacks finished at 12-over-par for the tournament, placing sixth overall out of 19 teams.

San Diego State claimed the team title by one stroke, shooting even par in the final round to finish at 13-under-par. Nebraska made a final push, shooting 7-under-par as a team in the third round to finish at 12-under-par overall. Individually, SDSU's Kylie Warner claimed the championship at 7-under-par through 54 holes (71-66-72). She finished one stroke ahead of Nebraska's Ailis Tribolet (71-69-70).

"It was great to have the opportunity to take all seven players to this tournament. We have a new group of people and players, so having everyone together again has given us the chance to continue building the team chemistry," head coach Brad Bedortha said.

Gracie Heinle led the Lumberjacks, finishing at even par after carding a 1-over-par 73 in the final round. Her even-par total marked a career low for 54 holes, and she tied for 11th in a field of 104 golfers. The senior from The Woodlands, Texas, led the entire tournament in birdies with 14 and recorded 27 pars. In the third round, she carded three birdies on holes six, 10 and 13. She averaged 3.09 on par-3s (+1), 3.97 on par-4s (-1), tying for the fourth-best average, and 4.83 on par-5s (-2).

Finishing just one stroke behind Heinle, Frankie Dezis tied for 13th with rounds of 71-70-76 for a 1-over-par total. The fellow senior recorded a birdie on each side of the course, including on the par-5s at holes eight and 15. Of her seven birdies over the three rounds, six came on par-5s. She ranked second in the field in par-5 scoring, averaging 4.50.

Freshman Kristyna Malinova posted the lowest score of the day for the Lumberjacks, carding a 1-under-par 71 in the final round. She got off to a strong start, playing her first nine holes, beginning on hole five, at 5-under-par. The Czech Republic native recorded birdies on holes seven, nine and 11. She finished the tournament at 4-over-par and climbed 17 spots on the leaderboard to tie for 26th. Malinova excelled on the par-3s, tying for the best scoring average in the field at 2.75 (-3). She recorded nine birdies over the three rounds.

Ella Zanatta made the biggest move up the leaderboard, climbing 18 spots after carding a 1-over-par 73. She recorded three birdies on holes eight, 15 and three. The Canadian junior finished tied for 49th at 9-over-par.

Rounding out the lineup, freshman Martyna Muchajer finished the final round at 6-over-par with a 78, tying for 76th at 15-over-par overall. She recorded birdies on holes eight and 16. One stroke behind her was fellow freshman Sofia Blanco, who competed as an individual. Blanco shot a 5-over-par 77 to tie for 80th at 16-over-par. She recorded birdies on holes 10 and 13.

Also competing as an individual, junior Alexa Ouellet finished the final round at 3-over-par. She recorded four birdies and climbed six spots on the leaderboard to tie for 97th at 24-over-par overall.

"The golf course was not in the best of conditions with the tee boxes and fairways not able to be cut due to a record amount of rain in the week before the tournament in New Mexico. The greens also suffered from the weather and caused them to be bumpy and inconsistent to putt on," Bedortha reflected on the conditions.

"Coach Lizzie and I have been working on our tournament processes and how we prepare prior to, how we do practice rounds, how we coach during the events, and our post tournaments plans. We believe that by creating and sticking to these processes, we are giving our athletes the best chance to perform during a tournament, and providing them with an evaluation process after the  tournament to help them best  prepare for the next."
