Late Equalizer from Kortus Leads to Senior Night Draw with Montana

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (October 22, 2026) – Elliotte Kortus recorded a late second-half goal to give the Northern Arizona soccer team a 1-1 draw with Montana on Thursday Night at Lumberjack Stadium.

Northern Arizona (7-4-4, 3-0-2 Big Sky) extends its unbeaten streak to a league-best eight matches and holds onto second place in the league standings with 11 points. Montana sees the first tie of its season, moving to 3-9-1 and 1-3-1 in conference play.

Kortus' goal is the second of her career, and the second this season scored in the last five minutes of the contest. Micala Boex provided the assist, her second straight game with a helper, while leading the 'Jacks attack with a smoldering season-high 14 shots on the night, four of those on target. NAU outshot Montana 34-14 and drew seven corner kicks to the Griz' five.

Lexi Saveski made the start in goal and played all 90 minutes, making seven saves.

Neither team established much flow offensively out the gate, but it was the Griz who snuck one in off a corner kick in the 16th minute for the early advantage when NAU failed to clear a corner kick.

The Lumberjacks got their next best chance in the 27th minute when a shot from Kortus on target and the rebound from Boex were both met by the keeper. Boex took another shot in the 29th minute that went just high, and Llamas drew a corner opportunity off a shot on target in the 36th minute.

Although the 'Jacks went into halftime trailing, they bridged the periods with momentum, asking eight of the first 10 questions in the second frame. Ava Hinske almost broke through in 83rd minute, but was called offsides.

As time wound down, NAU continued pressing and searching for the equalizer. In the 89h minute, Boex was able to find Kortus on the right side of the field who managed a shot between defenders and finally past the keeper. As play resumed with just under 90 seconds remaining, neither side got another shot on target as the affair ended in a tie.

With her assist today, Micala Boex cracks into another top 10 category in the NAU record books and is now tied for 10th all-time in career helpers (12). She also now sits in sole place of ninth in career points (46), passing Siera Cristiano.

The Lumberjacks remain in Flagstaff and will host Portland State on Sunday, Oct. 25. Kickoff with the Vikings is set for 12 p.m. MST and will be streamed on ESPN+.
