FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (October 25, 2026) – Four Lumberjacks recorded goals to give the Northern Arizona soccer team a 4-0 win over Portland State on Sunday afternoon at Lumberjack Stadium.
Valerie Llamas,
Lily Nesland,
Ava Hinske, and
Micala Boex all found the back of the net, as NAU (8-4-4, 4-0-2 Big Sky) set a season-high in goals. Hinske, Nesland, and Boex each recorded an assist to also set a season-high in points (11).
The Lumberjacks extend their unbeaten streak to a league-best nine matches and slide into first place in the Big Sky with 14 points. Portland State (3-12, 1-5 Big Sky) was paced by Elle Frazier and Gabby Flores, who each took two shots with one on target.
Lexi Saveski made the start in goal and played all 90 minutes, making three saves to record her eighth shutout of the season.
NAU began the match eager to respond following its 1-1 draw Thursday with Montana, taking five of the first seven shots in the contest. The Vikings seized opportunities as well, forcing Saveski to make a save at near-point-blank range in the 10th minute.
The 'Jacks first broke through when Hinske was able to connect with Llamas off a well-placed longball. Although she was initially met by the keeper, Llamas retained possession on the rebound and converted the second chance to make it 1-0 NAU in the 22nd minute.
NAU dominated the next 13 minutes, taking five more shots and putting two on target while allowing just one from Portland State.
As the offense continued to flow, Nesland took it herself down the right side of the pitch and dribbled around defenders to put a shot in the back left of the net in the 35th minute, giving NAU a 2-0 lead through the first 45.
Hinske got involved again early in the second frame, as she found herself unmarked just outside the 18 in the 53rd minute. Boex delivered a cross on the counterattack to the sophomore, who then put a shot wide left that ricocheted into the net to make it 3-0 'Jacks.
With a three-goal home lead for the second time in October, the Lumberjacks controlled pace the rest of the way, not allowing a shot on target. Boex placed the exclamation point on the day in the 89th minute, with a goal that also bounced in off the left post.
Boex continues to climb the ladder in the NAU record books. Her one-goal, one-assist effort in the match now places her seventh all-time in points (49) and 10th in assists (13). As a team, NAU recorded its ninth shutout on the year, tied for fifth-most in a season in program history.
The Lumberjacks will close the regular season with a trio of road games, starting with Idaho State on Thursday, Oct. 29. Kickoff with the Bengals is set for 6 p.m. MST and will be streamed on ESPN+.
