NAU Rallies for 2-2 Draw with Idaho State

POCATELLO, Idaho (October 29, 2026) – Down 2-0 at halftime, the Northern Arizona soccer team found a pair of second-half goals to earn a draw with Idaho State on Thursday evening at Davis Field.

NAU (8-4-5, 4-0-3 Big Sky) avoids a blemish in league action and extends its unbeaten stretch to 10 matches, the second-longest in program history. ISU moves to 4-7-5 and 2-2-3 in Big Sky matches.

Kaylee Muniz and Erin Perry were the Lumberjack goal scorers, both collecting their first points on the season, with Ava Hinske and Valerie Llamas assisting Muniz' goal, and Micala Boex assisting Perry's equalizer.

Lexi Saveski made the start in goal and played all 90 minutes, making four saves. NAU outshot the Bengals 20-13, and put nine shots on target.

ISU got on the board early in the seventh minute, taking advantage of a second-chance opportunity on a corner kick. Hinske and Elliotte Kortus forced the Bengal keeper to make saves in the 19th and 20th minutes, as the 'Jacks looked to respond.

The Bengals added another score when a rocket from outside the box snuck past Saveski in the 32nd minute. Without another shot on target from either side before halftime, the hosts took the 2-0 lead into the break.

Llamas wasted no time as the second stanza began, taking a shot that went just high in the 47th minute. Action then shifted to the opposite side of the pitch, as Saveski and the backline held off a flurry of shots and corner kicks into the 58th minute.

After regaining possession, a yellow card in the same minute awarded a free kick for the 'Jacks and another set piece opportunity at midfield. Brooklyn Jones sent the ball into the box where Hinske was able to make first touch, and find Llamas, who then sent it off Muniz to chop the deficit in half.

Kristen Puels took NAU's best shot at an equalizer in the 81st minute that hit the crossbar. Jones and Llamas each got another chance in the 84th minute off a corner, but couldn't put it on target.

The 'Jacks persisted, as they continued to create opportunities in set pieces off corner kicks. With less than five minutes to go, Muniz tested the keeper again and was denied, but NAU kept possession. Boex was then able to get the ball into the box and connect with Perry, who turned and shot it past the keeper in the 87th minute.

The NAU backline held ISU to just one shot in the last 18 minutes, as the Bengals took their last chance at regaining the lead in the 89th minute with a shot that was too high.

With her assist in the contest, Micala Boex pushes herself into seventh all-time in assists in NAU program history (14). She also becomes the seventh player in Lumberjack soccer history to record 50 or more points in a career, as she eclipses 50 points tonight with the helper.

The Lumberjacks remain on the road and head to Ogden next for a duel with Weber State on Sunday, Nov. 1. Kickoff with the Wildcats is set for 1 p.m. MST and will be streamed on ESPN+.
