Lumberjacks Cruise to the Championship Match with 4-0 win against Montana State

PHOENIX, Ariz. (April 24, 2026) - The Northern Arizona men's tennis team took down the Montana State Bobcats, 4-0, in the semifinals of the Big Sky Tennis Championships. The win marks the fourth year in a row that NAU is going to the final of the conference tournament.

The Lumberjacks got off to a hot start by winning the doubles point. Jakub Volesky and Noa Tcherniack notched a bagel in their 6-0 victory at the No. 3 position. Jakub Jedrzejczak and Takumi Katsuda rounded out doubles with a win as the No. 1 team, finishing the tight battle, 6-3.

There was no slowing down for the Lumberjacks in singles play. Tcherniack played solid and picked up a breadstick on the way to his straight set victory. Tens followed the Tcherniack victory with one of his own at the No. 6 spot in the line, also in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.

Volesky clinched the match for NAU with a win in two sets, 6-2, 7-5. Volesky won the last three games of the second set to finish the sweep for the Lumberjacks. 

The final matchup for NAU is against the No. 3 seed, the Idaho State Bengals. The last time that they played the Bengals, the Lumberjacks came away victorious by the score of 6-1, on Mar. 8 Flagstaff

The championship match takes place on Saturday, April 25 at 8 a.m. at the Phoenix Tennis Center.
