Lumberjacks Close the Door on Idaho State, Capture Fifth Big Sky Championship

PHOENIX, Ariz. (April 25, 2026) – The No. 1 Northern Arizona men's tennis team held off a rally from No. 4 Idaho State to win the Big Sky Championship match, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon at the Phoenix Tennis Center.

The crown is NAU's fifth overall tournament title, and first since 2021. It is also the second time in program history that the Jacks own both the regular season and tournament
championship, the last coming in 2019.

"A lot of hard work, discipline, and just being ready for the moment." said Head Coach Maciej Bogusz on his team's preparation in getting the job done.  "The guys were ready, and it's not an easy thing what they were able to do as such a young team. But they all play for each other, they are so close and it showed today."

Doubles play was tight, as no court won by more than just a break. At the No. 3 position, Jakub Volesky and Noa Tcherniack skated by with a 7-5 win after the first two courts were split to grab a 1-0 lead for the Jacks.

NAU kept its foot on the gas, as Daniels Tens and Volesky finished almost simultaneously with straight set wins to put the Jacks on the verge of the clinch. The Bengals then grabbed a point on court two in a hard-fought, three-set battle to make it 3-1 NAU.

The deficit then shrank to one, as ISU took another win on court four. With the Bengals knocking on the door, Tcherniack battled through in a hard, neck-and-neck third set to put the contest on ice with a win on court one.
