FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (May 11, 2026) – Opening his 2026-27 class of newcomers to the program, Northern Arizona head men's basketball coach
Shane Burcar announced the signings of three talented incoming freshmen on Monday.
The Lumberjacks are adding a pair of players, Noah George and Lucas Toukam, from nationally-ranked Bella Vista College Prep in Phoenix as well as Johnny Mautz from Maryland's St. Michaels High School.
"Noah, Lucas and Johnny are three outstanding additions to our program," Burcar said. "While recruiting these young men, the thing that stood out was their approach to the game and their desire to get better. All three fit the culture and vision of NAU Basketball."
Although George, rated a 3-star recruit by Rivals, originally hails from Malton, Ontario, Canada, the 6-5 point guard heads to Flagstaff following the conclusion of his career at Bella Vista College Prep in the Valley of the Sun. As a senior, George averaged 12.7 points, eight rebounds and six assists per game.
"Noah is an exceptional passer with the charisma to be in a leadership position soon," Burcar said. "He is a special talent and someone who has a special feel for the game. Noah has the ability to impact the game in so many ways."
Like George, Toukam brings a winning pedigree coming out of Bella Vista College Prep, where the two newest Lumberjacks were part of one of the top prep programs in the country.
Together, they competed on Bella Vista's National Team, which captured the Beach Ball Classic title last December in Myrtle Beach, S.C. and compiled a third-place finish in the Power Conference with a 7-3 record at the elite Grind Session World Championships in March.
Toukam, a 6-8 forward from Bafoussam, Cameroon, averaged 10.3 points and seven rebounds per game in his final prep season. He was particularly active on the offensive glass, averaging nearly three offensive rebounds per contest.
"Lucas has tremendous length, versatility and upside, and we're excited about his long-term future," Burcar said. "Lucas has great defensive versatility and competitiveness to keep possessions alive."
Mautz is making his way west from St. Michaels, Md. where he was a two-time All-North Bayside First Team selection at St. Michaels High School. As a senior, the 6-3 guard averaged 22.3 points, 13.6 rebounds and nearly four assists per game, while totaling 18 double-doubles in 21 games and setting the school's all-time scoring record with 1,407 career points.
"Johnny is an explosive scorer and competitor who impacts the game on both ends of the floor," Burcar said. "Johnny can score at all three levels, while also showing the ability to create for others and make winning plays."
The three incoming freshmen joins an NAU roster that returns three starters in
Ryan Abelman,
Chris Komin and
Brennan Peterson.
