ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – (August 20, 2026) – The Northern Arizona soccer team conceded a pair of first-half goals in consecutive minutes and fell 2-0 to New Mexico on Thursday night at the UNM Soccer Complex.
NAU (1-1) was paced by
Micala Boex, who took four shots, two on target, while
Taija Anderson,
Erin Perry and
Brooklyn Jones each took a pair of shots. The Jacks outshot New Mexico 18-9 and held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
Lexi Saveski made her second start of the season in goal and played all 90 minutes, making three saves.
New Mexico (1-0) was led by Presley Devey who took three shots and tallied one goal, while Nicole Anderson provided the other score for the Lobos.
NAU found two opportunities early, drawing a corner in the first minute, followed by a cross into the box shortly after that was grabbed by the Lobo keeper. The hosts took their first shot in the 12th minute that went just wide, less than a minute before Anderson got another look inside the box that missed high.
The Lobos' notched their scores in the 19th and 20th minutes for the quick 2-0 lead. The Jacks kept attacking, as Jones took a shot on target in the 22nd minute off a corner kick, followed by another shot from Anderson halted by the New Mexico backline. NAU was able to ask a few more questions before the half but went into the break in a deficit.
The Lumberjacks remained aggressive in the second half, with
Elliotte Kortus taking a shot off another corner that went wide in the 54th minute. NAU controlled possession for much of the early period and were able to draw corners in the 59th and 60th minutes, continuing to knock on the door for a goal.
With time running out, NAU persisted and gained several opportunities in their attacking zone as the Jacks held onto possession but were unable to avoid the shutout.
The Lumberjacks return to Flagstaff for their home opener this weekend, welcoming UC San Diego on Sunday, Aug. 23. Kickoff with the Tritons is slated for 1 p.m. Mountain standard time and will be streamed on ESPN+.
