LAS CRUCES, N.M. (September 20, 2026) – The Northern Arizona soccer team completed the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 2-0 win at New Mexico State on Sunday afternoon at the NMSU Soccer Athletic Complex.

NAU improves to 4-4-2, while the Aggies fall to 1-7-2.

Micala Boex and Ava Hinske were the goal scorers for the Lumberjacks, who have gone unbeaten in their last three outings. Kristen Puels provided the assist on Boex's goal, her second helper on the season, and Boex assisted Hinske's goal for her first helper on the year.

Boex tied her career-high in shots with seven, putting three on target. Valerie Llamas took a season-high five shots, also putting three on target, while Elliotte Kortus took a trio of shots to spearhead the NAU attack. The 'Jacks as a unit released a season-high 27 shots, marking the first match NAU has taken 25 or more shots since tallying 34 against Embry-Riddle last season, while holding the Aggies to 10 in the contest.

Lexi Saveski made the start in goal and played wire-to-wire, making five saves to collect the fifth shutout of her career.

The Aggies made Saveski work early, as she made a pair of saves in the sixth and seventh minutes. The Lumberjacks pressured the New Mexico State keeper early as well, with Boex ripping a shot on target in the 11th minute. The first score was born from a corner kick shortly after, putting NAU up 1-0 in the 12th minute.

The Lumberjack backline shined again, holding the Aggies without a shot on goal for the remainder of the first period. Ainsley Capps took another shot on goal in the 40th minute, as NAU took the 1-0 lead into halftime.

NAU kept its foot on the gas out of the break, notching its second goal in the 52nd minute. Saveski made another pair of saves in the 56th and 58th minutes to keep the Aggies off the board, while the attack continued with more shots on target from Llamas and Kortus.

With the 2-0 lead, it was the backline that ultimately closed out the win, not allowing a shot on goal in the final 28 minutes.

Micala Boex continues to move up the NAU career rankings, as she now sits eighth in goals (16), and 10th in points (42).

The Lumberjacks take a near three-week break from game action before opening Big Sky Conference play by welcoming Eastern Washington to Flagstaff on Oct. 8. Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m. MST and will be streamed on ESPN+.
