  • 26 NAU Student-Athletes Named to Big Sky Spring All-Academic Team

    OGDEN, Utah – Big Sky Conference office announced their All-Academic Teams for the spring 2015 season with the Northern Arizona for men's and women's outdoor track, men's and women's tennis and women's golf teams having 26 student-athletics honored.
  • Hasquet and Vang Announced as Big Sky Scholar Athlete Award Recipients

    OGDEN, Utah – Austin Hasquet and Johanna Vang have been announced as Northern Arizona University’s 2015 Big Sky Scholar Athlete Award winners for their athletic and academic excellence. Hasquet and Vang were both honored as two of NAU’s four Golden Eagle Scholar-Athletes of the Year in April and were both Gold Axe Award recipients during the 2014-15 academic year.
  • Women's Tennis' Vang Nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year Award

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Recent Northern Arizona women's tennis graduate Johanna Vang has been nominated for the prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year Award. Vang is one of a record 480 female student-athletes, 207 of whom competed at the Division I level, to be nominated for the award this year.
  • Summer 2015 Coaches Caravan Dates Announced

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona University Athletics Department will be rolling through the state of Arizona during its annual NAU Coaches Caravan tour and hopes that Lumberjack Nation will come out in full force when it hits your city. The caravan will make its first stop in San Diego on Monday, June 29 before making several stops in the Grand Canyon State.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Last year, Northern Arizona University student-athletes performed an incredible 4,378 total community service hours setting a new department record. During the 2014-15 academic year, Lumberjack student-athletes outdid themselves resetting the record with over 5,000 hours out in the Flagstaff community and the greater Northern Arizona region in an outstanding department-wide effort to give back.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona women’s tennis program has been the model of consistency in the Big Sky Conference after the Lumberjacks once again had another outstanding season in 2015. The Lumberjacks ended the year with a 13-11 overall record with an 8-3 record in the Big Sky.
  • Women’s Tennis Honored By NCAA for Third Straight Year

    INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Northern Arizona women’s tennis team has been honored by the NCAA for earning the Public Recognition Award, based on their most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rate. This award is given each year to teams with APRs in the top 10 percent in each sport. This is the third consecutive year women’s tennis has received the honor.
  • NAU Men Win Second Consecutive Big Sky All-Sports Trophy

    OGDEN, Utah – Northern Arizona men have captured their second consecutive Big Sky All-Sports Trophy, the conference office announced Tuesday. The Lumberjacks went into the outdoor track championship with the lead, and maintained it after a tie for first place capturing their fourth straight outdoor title.
  • Johanna Vang Named to the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic First Team All-District 8

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – After a stellar four years at Northern Arizona, women’s tennis Johanna Vang has been named to the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic First Team All-District 8 for her achievements in the classroom and on the tennis court. Vang is just one of 11 athletes to be named First Team from the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Canada. The 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-District At-Large Teams recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
  • NAU Athletics Celebrates 42 Student-Athlete Graduates This Weekend

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – In total, 42 Northern Arizona University student-athletes will receive their degrees from the university this weekend during the Spring 2015 commencement ceremonies held on campus yesterday and today. Including the 21 student-athletes who participated in the Fall 2014 commencement ceremonies, the NAU Athletics Department produced a total of 63 graduates for the 2014-15 academic year.

    OGDEN, Utah – After a 13-11 record during the 2015 season, the Northern Arizona women’s tennis team placed four players on the All-Big Sky Conference teams. Leading the group was Hailey Rochin with a Second Team All-Big Sky selection and earning Honorable Mention was Jordan Denesik, Marta Lewandowska and Johanna Vang.

  • NAU’s Season comes to an End After 4-0 Loss to Sacramento State

    SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Northern Arizona women’s tennis season came an end in the semifinals of the Big Sky Championships against the No. 1 seed Sacramento State. The Hornets were a perfect 11-0 in the Big Sky this season and they remained undefeated in conference as they defeated the Lumberjacks 4-0. NAU ends the season with a 13-11 record in 2015.

    SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Northern Arizona women’s tennis team began the Big Sky Championships as the No. 4 seed and a matchup against the No. 5 seed Weber State in the quarterfinals. The Lumberjacks picked up their 13th win of the season as they advance to the semifinals with a 4-1 victory over the Wildcats.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Once again, the Northern Arizona women’s tennis team is back in the Big Sky Championships under head coach Kim Bruno. The Lumberjacks enter the Championships as the fourth seed and in the quarterfinals NAU will face the No. 5 seed, Weber State, on Friday, April 24, in Sacramento, Calif. at the Gold River Racquet Club.

    MIZZOULA, Mont. – The Northern Arizona women’s tennis team ended the regular season with a matchup against Montana. The Grizzlies were able to snap the Lumberjacks four-match winning streak as the Griz defeated NAU 5-2. Northern Arizona ends the regular season with a 12-10 record and an 8-3 record in the Big Sky.

    BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Northern Arizona women’s tennis team continues to build momentum heading towards the Big Sky Championships with just two matches left in the season. On Saturday, the Lumberjacks extended their winning streak to four matches with a 5-2 victory over Montana State. NAU moves to 12-9 this season and 8-2 in the Big Sky.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The academic honors continued to pile up for NAU Athletics Wednesday night as four graduating student-athletes were among forty-three students who received the university’s prestigious Gold Axe Award. The athletics contingent at the Gold Axe and Distinguished Seniors awards banquet included Diane Buzzard (women’s soccer), Laura Jabczenski (golf), Taylor Stephens (volleyball) and Johanna Vang (women’s tennis) as the quartet was bestowed with the coveted award.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Having already clinched a spot in the Big Sky Championships, the Northern Arizona women’s tennis team will close out the regular season on the road against Montana State and Montana. The Lumberjacks will look to wrap up the third seed in the Big Sky tournament right behind Idaho and Sacramento State the only teams NAU have lost to in the Big Sky this season.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – On Wednesday, NAU’s brightest student-athletes were honored at the 37th annual Golden Eagle Awards held at the High Country Conference Center. The annual luncheon recognizes Northern Arizona University’s student-athletes who maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average in the classroom. Golden Eagle Distributors, Inc., honored 191 Lumberjack student-athletes for their scholastic and athletic accomplishments.
  • NAU Clinches Big Sky Tourney Spot with 7-0 Defeat of Portland State

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – With two things in mind, the Northern Arizona women's tennis team took to the court at Continental Country Club on Sunday for their 2015 home finale. After honoring their seniors Johanna Vang and Sarah Maria Spruch prior to their match, the Lumberjacks proceeded to make it a successful Senior Day by defeating Portland State, 7-0. The win allowed the 'Jacks to accomplish what they set out to do: clinch a spot in the Big Sky tournament and avenge a loss to the Vikings on the road last season.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona women's tennis team showed the type of resiliency it will take to win a conference championship on Saturday, rallying for a tough non-conference win, 4-3, against a quality Utah State team at Continental Country Club. Down the doubles point and having dropped the first set in four of six singles matches, junior Emelia Box's win at No. 3 singles sealed up the come-from-behind win for the Lumberjacks as they improved to 10-9 this season.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona women's tennis team returned to Continental Country Club Thursday morning to open their final homestand of the season, and after a dominating effort they turned their three-match losing streak into a thing of the past following a 7-0 shutout of Southern Utah. The Lumberjacks notched wins in each of the three doubles and six singles matches to even their overall record to 9-9 and more importantly move a step closer to clinching a spot in the Big Sky Championships with a 6-2 conference mark.

    RENO, Nev. – The Northern Arizona women’s tennis team concluded its road trip traveling to Reno, Nev. to take on Nevada. The Lumberjacks (8-9) came away with the doubles point but it was not enough as Nevada (7-9) came away with four wins defeating the Lumberjacks 4-3.

    SACRAMENTO, Calif. – To kick off their roadtrip, the Northern Arizona women’s tennis team faced Sacramento State on their home court looking to hand the Hornets their first loss in conference the season. The Hornets played like the best team in the Big Sky with a 6-1 victory over Northern Arizona as the Lumberjacks fall to 8-8 this season and 5-2 in conference.
  • NAU Faces Sacramento State & Nevada on the Road

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – After an impressive weekend going 3-1 in the Big Sky, the Northern Arizona women’s tennis team will head out on the road for a match in California and also in Nevada. The Lumberjacks will begin the road trip with a match against the defending Big Sky Champions, Sacramento State, and then NAU will face Nevada to close out the weekend.
  • 'Jacks, Northern Arizona Community Come Together for Student-Athlete for a Day

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The NAU Athletics Department, spearheaded by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), held its Student-Athlete for a Day on Tuesday for over 200 children throughout the northern Arizona region. The important Student-Athlete for a Day returned for the first time in three years and was a fun-filled day for both the Lumberjack student-athletes and the local youth.
