Josh Irvin spent six years coaching at a trio of universities before joining Northern Arizona University in the summer of 2020. He was promoted to defensive ends coach and recruiting director in the summer of 2021.

 

During his first season as a graduate assistant, Irvin coached the team’s defensive ends and had full control of the position group during meetings, practices and installs.

 

A graduate of Chapman in Orange, Calif., Irvin played for the Panthers from 2011 to 2013 and served as a team captain before joining the coaching staff from Feb. 2014 to July 2015. 

 

After serving as the defensive backs coach for Chapman, Irvin moved to San Jose State University where he was a defensive graduate assistant and defensive quality control coach from August 2015 to April 2018. During the 2015 and 2016 seasons, Irvin worked with the defensive backs before shifting to the outside linebackers in 2017 where he had full control of the position group.

 

Irvin then spent April 2018 to December 2018 with Humboldt State University, coaching the program’s receivers while also serving as the passing game coordinator. Irvin also served as the team’s recruiting coordinator. 

 

He returned to San Jose State for the 2019 season, assisting with the team’s defensive ends as well as serving as video coordinator. 

Irvin graduated from Chapman with a bachelor’s degree of science in business administration and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in educational leadership from Northern Arizona.
