2023-24 (Senior): Finished the season with a 9-12 singles record, including a 2-0 record at the number four spot…Earned the lone singles point against No. 43 Arizona with a 6-1, 6-1 win on court five…Began the season with a 6-3, 6-4 win on court four against UTEP…Completed the sweep over Utah Tech with a 6-2, 6-2 victory on court five.
2022-23 (Junior): All-Big Sky Second Team in singles…Finished season with 10-9 singles record and 7-0 conference singles record…Clinched doubles point 6-4 against GCU while playing with Ana Karen Guadiana Campos…Clinched win against GCU with 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4…Won doubles 6-3 against #53 Colorado State while playing with Sofia Markova…Completed sweep over Eastern Washington with 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5…Clinched win against Idaho while playing at No. 5.
2021-22 (Sophomore): All-Big Sky First Team in doubles and All-Big Sky Honorable Mention in singles... Named Big Sky Women’s Tennis Player of the Week on April 5... Recorded a 10-8 record in singles play, with a 6-match win streak stretching from March 18 to April 10... Finished the season 4-3 at No. 5 and 5-0 at No. 6... Clinched team victories against Sacramento State on March 18, Idaho State on March 23 and Montana on April 2... With the team score tied 3-3, earned a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) victory at No. 6 against Montana’s Alex Walker... Also clinched the Big Sky Conference Championship with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 5 against Weber State’s Sicely Ferreira to secure a third consecutive conference tournament title and NCAA Tournament appearance... Led 6-4, 4-2 against Idaho State’s Leah Kuruvilla at No. 5 in the Big Sky Conference semifinals before Northern Arizona clinched the victory at No. 1... Finished with a 13-4 record overall in doubles, including a 12-1 record with Gina Dittmann, setting a program record for win percentage by a doubles pairing... Won 12 straight matches with Dittmann, including a 7-0 record in the Big Sky’s regular season, before falling at the No. 90-ranked pairing of Jessica Alsola and Katja Wiersholm from No. 11 California in the NCAA Tournament... Went 5-1 at No. 2 and 7-0 at No. 3 after beginning to pair together on March 13 against New Mexico State... Also paired with Sofia Markova for a 7-5 victory over Wyoming’s Mihaela Kaftanova and Lucia Malinak to clinch the doubles point.
2020-21 (Freshman): Finished her first year with the Lumberjacks undefeated on her home court in singles and earned All-Big Sky Second Team honors... Ended the year with a 11-7 record in singles, playing primarily at No. 4... Held a 9-6 record on Court 4, 2-0 on Court 5 and 0-1 at No. 3 in her freshman year... Finished 3-0 in the Big Sky... Clinched the victory on the road at UTEP while winning all 16 sets in Flagstaff... Dropped just 33 games while winning 97 at home, with just one tiebreaker needed in a victory against Weber State... Led 6-4, 4-1 against Portland State at the Big Sky Conference Tournament before the match was left unfinished and beat Weber State’s Megan Davies 6-3, 6-1 in the championship match to register one of the four points needed for a victory... Paired with senior Madi Moore primarily on Court 3 and finishing 6-11 in doubles.
High School: Attended Chaparral High School in Scottsdale... Produced a highly decorated juniors career in UTSA sanctioned tournaments prior to joining the Lumberjacks... Doubles championships at the Southwest Section Closed L3 and National L3 tournaments... Singles finalist at the Southwest Section Closed L3 tournament and doubles finalist at National L2 tournament... A member of the USTA Silver Ball winning team at the National Spring Team Championships in 2014... Finished in sixth place at the Winter National Championships L1... Won the Sportsmanship Award at the Southwest Closed G16s and the Wilson Sportsmanship Annual Award for Southwest U14 in 2013
Personal: Ava Banou Neyestani was born Jan. 19, 2002... Daughter of Robyn and Bardia Neyestani... Has one younger sister, Anna... Some of her most memorable moments have been all of the team tournaments over the years because of the team atmosphere... Chose NAU because of her ability to play close to home and the university’s ability to provide all the resources needed for students to thrive and excel
