RESULTS (PDF)

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (October 11, 2018) – Senior Hanneke Lodewijks and junior Chiara Tomasetti continued to lead the Northern Arizona women's tennis team as the Lumberjacks completed the second day of the ITA Mountain Regional Championships in Las Vegas. Lodewijks and Tomasetti both played their way into the Round of 16 singles in addition to advancing to the Round of 16 doubles following victories on Thursday.

Tomasetti blanked BYU's Madeline Almedia, 6-0, 6-0, in her first of two Thursday matches to move on to the third round. The fourth-seeded Lumberjack proceeded to knock off Boise State's Lilian Poling, 6-4, 6-2, in her second match.

Lodewijks followed a similar path to the fourth round of the singles main draw by first cruising past Pei Kuo of Weber State, 6-0, 6-2. In her next match, Lodewijks – the No. 13 seed – needed to rally after a first set loss and did just that to defeat Utah's Madison Tattini, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

The duo extended their roll into doubles with a victory over New Mexico's Polly Chen and Danielle Quevedo. Seeded second in the doubles draw, Tomasetti and Lodewijks defeated the Lobo tandem, 8-4, after receiving a first round bye.

Sophomores Ellie Millard and Cora-Lynn von Dungern also competed in singles, but saw their run in the main draw come to an end on day two of competition. Millard would notch a victory though before bowing out, defeating Utah's Emily Dush, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, in three sets. Millard lost in the third round to Boise State's Wilhelmina Palmer – the eighth-seed – by a score of 6-3, 6-1.

von Dungern fell to the No. 14 seed, UNLV's Izumi Asano, 6-3, 6-1 in the second round.

Like Tomasetti and Lodewijks, Millard and von Dungern also saw action in the main draw to open the morning's doubles play. However, Millard and von Dungern were matched up against the top seed and No. 37 nationally-ranked pairing of Aiwen Zhu and En-Pei Huang. Zhu and Huang wound up getting the best of the NAU duo, 8-2.

In consolation play, the Lumberjacks earned a pair of doubles victories starting with senior Eirene Granville and sophomore Madi Moore, who picked up an easy 6-1 win over Eimear Mather and Nathalie Joanlanne of Montana.

NAU's freshmen tandem of Emilie Haakansson and Adrianna Sosnowska closed out the team's results with a 6-2 victory against New Mexico State's Neus Torregrosa and Yadira Rubio.

The third day of the ITA Mountain Regional Championships will get under way at 9 a.m. at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. Slated for Friday are the Round of 16 and quarterfinal doubles matches, the Round of 16 singles matches as well as consolation matches in both singles and doubles.
