Las Vegas, Nev. (October 16, 2018) – Northern Arizona Men's Tennis team participated in the ITA Regional Championships today in both the singles and doubles main draws. The Lumberjacks had three athletes perform in the singles main draw while having one pair in the doubles main draw.
In singes, the 'Jacks went 0-3 in the main draw.
Tim Handel took on Alexander Flink of Montana State. Handel could not get anything going as he lost in two sets 6-1 and 6-1. While
Facundo Tumosa fell to Sean Hill of BYU in two sets 6-3 and 7-5. Finally,
Lucas Taylor lost a tight first set to Louis Menard of New Mexico State University 7-6 and unfortunately wasn't able to come back after the tenacious first set and lost the second set 6-1.
With all three NAU players falling in the main draw, they moved into the singles consolation bracket. The lone Lumberjack to win their consolation match was Taylor. Taylor was able to take down Carlos Neto of Idaho in two sets 6-4 and 7-6. Taylor will now move onto the second round of the consolation bracket against Mattia Ros of Denver University.
In the doubles main draw the duo of
Ruben Montano and Handel took on Neto and Esteban Santibanez of Idaho. The 'Jacks duo was able to squeak out a win, by the score of 8-7. With the win, Montano and Handel will take on Dehaan and Benitez of New Mexico State University tomorrow at 9 a.m. MST.
