Las Vegas, Nev. (October 18, 2018) – Northern Arizona's Men's Tennis entered day four of the ITA Mountain Regionals with
Lucas Taylor still in the singles consolation bracket and the duo pair of
Tim Handel and
Ruben Montano in the doubles main draw.
In the singles consolation bracket, Taylor had won three rounds over the past couple of days. Entering the semi-finals, Taylor faced off against Pedro Fernandez of Denver University. In the first set, Taylor fell 6-3 while in the second set he fell 6-4. The loss ended Taylor's run in the tournament.
In the doubles main the Lumberjacks still have the pair of Handel and Montano remaining. The duo started the day in the quarter-finals against Clayton Alenik and Eric Samuelsson of UNLV. Handel and Montano took down the duo by a score of 8-5. With the win Handel, and Montano moved onto the semi-finals against Sean Hill and Jeffrey Hsu of BYU. The NAU pair fell in the first set of the match 5-7 while the second set consisted of the Lumberjacks pair squeaking out a win 7-6. It all came down to the third and final set where Handel and Montano were able to clinch a spot in the finals with a score of 10-5.
Northern Arizona's double teammates will take on Julien Evrard and Kostya Nesterenko of the University of Nevada at Reno tomorrow in the championship at 1 p.m. MST.
