LAS VEGAS, Nev. (October 18, 2018) – Northern Arizona's Men's Tennis entered the final day of the ITA Mountain Regionals with the doubles pair of
Tim Handel and
Ruben Montano remaining.
In the doubles main event, the Lumberjacks duo has been able to make it to the championship match. Handel and Montano had a tested path throughout as they squeaked out a win in their first match 8-7. The pair would eventually face another obstacle in the semi-finals where they lost their first set before winning the final two. The win allowed the 'Jacks to advance to the championship.
In the championship match, Handel and Montano took on Julien Evrad and Kostya Nesterenko on the University of Nevada, Reno. The 'Jacks were able to take down the Wolves in just two sets, 7-5 and 6-4. This win not only marks the first championship of the year for the 'Jacks but will also qualify the duo for the ITA Oracle Fall Nationals in Surprise, Ariz. on Nov. 7. This event will be a big stage for Handel and Montano to perform on as it is made up of the top 32 double teams in the nation.
