PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. (October 3, 2018) – Senior
Hanneke Lodewijks and junior
Chiara Tomasetti wrapped up play at the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships on Wednesday, bowing out in the doubles back draw. Lodewijks and Tomasetti went 0-2 in the doubles qualifying round over the last two days.
"We expected tough matches and we knew it wasn't going to be easy," said head coach
Ewa Bogusz. "With that said, there were some things we could've done better. It was good to see that we are right up there with the best players in the country. We're ready to keep working hard and get them next time."
Lodewijks and Tomasetti opened the All-American Championships with an 8-4 loss to Old Dominion's Holly Hutchinson and Brooke Pilkington in the first round of the doubles qualifying on Tuesday.
After falling into the back draw, Lodewijks and Tomasetti put up a great fight against the No. 40 ranked doubles pair in the nation. The Northern Arizona women's tennis pair defended two match points down 6-4, and got to a tiebreak. However, Washington's Stacey Fung and Vanessa Wong held off the hard-charging 'Jacks to advance 8-7(6).
Lodewijks and Tomasetti will be rejoined by their teammates when the Lumberjacks compete at the ITA Mountain Regional Championships in Las Vegas, Nev. next week. The Regional Championships will be held at the Fertitta Tennis Complex from Oct. 10-14.
