Las Cruces, N.M. (October 8, 2018) – The Northern Arizona University women's golf team competed in the opening round of the New Mexico State Aggie Invitational at the New Mexico State University Golf Course in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

The Lumberjacks found themselves in 10
th place overall after the first round, as the team finished the day 13-over (301). Northern Arizona was led by sophomore
Lexi Keene (+1, 73), who found herself tied for 16th after one day of competition. The Bakersfield, Calif., native shot for eight even rounds in the first nine holes of the day.

"I feel as though I did great despite not playing what I would consider my 'A' game," said Keene. "The team came out with the cannons firing and I think we can be a force to be reckoned with in the next few days."

Freshman
Aleksandra Chekalina was second for the Lumberjacks, shooting a two-over 74 (tied for 21
st). Fellow freshman
Ashley Croft was right behind her with a three-over, 75 performance (T-31
st).

Elle Kocourkova, the freshman out of the Czech Republic, finished fourth individually for NAU with a seven-over 79 (T-69
th).
Loren Skibba rounded things out with an 8-over 80 (T-75
th).Â

UTEP (290) and Oral Roberts (292) finished the opening day of the tournament atop the leaderboard with team scores of two-over and four-over.

Round two will begin with a shotgun start and will be teeing off at 7:30 a.m. MST on Oct. 9th. The third and final round will be played on Oct. 10th and will tee off at the same time.
