Lumberjacks Clinch 5-2 Victory Over UTEP For Undefeated Weekend

EL PASO, Texas — For the third straight match the Northern Arizona women's tennis team dominated their opponent, besting the University of Texas – El Paso 5-2 to conclude their undefeated road weekend. 

"There was great energy today from the very first point," head coach Maciej Bogusz said. "We were able to take the lead on every court."

With the same new lineup this weekend in doubles that have garnered them the doubles point against New Mexico State, the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks dominated again with a 6-4, 6-0 and 6-2 win on each court respectively. 

The Lumberjacks continued to dominate in singles falling on only two courts. Juniors Hanneke Lodewijks and Eirene Granville, sophomore Chiara Tomasetti and freshman Madi Moore picked up wins for the blue and gold to help clinch their third straight win of the season. The 'Jacks are now 3-2 on the season. 

"It was a great weekend for the team," said Bogusz. "We played a little bit better each day, which is the most important thing for us early in the season. It's fun to see how hard they are competing and how excited they are for every match. We can't wait for our home opener against New Mexico." 

Northern Arizona will return from their five-match road start with a weekend off before hosting their home opener against the University of New Mexico. The Lumberjacks will face the Lobos Saturday, Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. in the Aquatic and Tennis Complex.
