Lumberjacks to Start Three-Match Week on Road before Hosting

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona women's team will continue conference action against three Big Sky opponents in Southern Utah, Montana State and Northern Colorado starting Tuesday, March 27.
 
The Lumberjacks will hit the road after a little over a week since their last competition taking on the Southern Utah Thunderbirds first Tuesday at 11 a.m.
 
The 'Jacks are coming off of two wins against Eastern Washington and Idaho to increase to 10-3 overall and 5-0 in the Big Sky, as the only undefeated conference team.
 
Following its match in Utah, Northern Arizona will host the Montana State Bobcats and the Northern Colorado Bears Friday, March 30 and Sunday, April 1 in Flagstaff, Ariz.
 
The 'Jacks will face the Bobcats at 11 a.m. while the match against the Bears is set for 10 a.m. Both of these matches will be held in the Aquatic and Tennis Complex. All fans will receive compass keychains on Friday and NAU-branded coasters on Sunday while supplies last.

  • Last season the Lumberjacks finished on top as the 2017 Big Sky Regular Season champions after recording an 18-5 overall record and an undefeated 11-0 conference record.

Southern Utah is currently 7-6 overall and 0-2 in the Big Sky coming off of three wins against Bradley University, UC Riverside and UC Irvine. Most recently the Thunderbirds garnered their second 7-0 sweep of the season against the UCI Anteaters. Southern Utah will face Portland State Sunday, March 25 before taking on the 'Jacks Tuesday. Last time Northern Arizona and Southern Utah competed against each other was last season when the Lumberjacks shutout the Thunderbirds 7-0. The nine-woman roster is led by head coach Rose Ketmayura.

The Montana State Bobcats most recently competed against Boise State and Idaho and will compete against the Lumberjacks first before traveling to Southern Utah. The last time the Bobcats and Lumberjacks faced off was last season when the 'Jacks took away a 4-3 win from Montana State in April. The eight-woman roster is led by head coach Jon Reeves who is in his third season with the Bobcats.

The Bears will travel to Flagstaff to take on the Lumberjacks after first competing against Southern Utah Friday, March 30. Northern Colorado is coming from Utah after facing another Big Sky opponent, the Weber State Wildcats. The last time Northern Colorado and Northern Arizona faced off the Bears hosted the 'Jacks falling 6-1. Head coach Brenda Gallegos leads an eight-woman roster. Gallegos has been a part of the Bears tennis program since 2002, first as an assistant coach.  

Coming Up
Northern Arizona will hit the road to compete in three consecutive matches this week against the Utah State Aggies, the Idaho State Bengals and the Weber State Wildcats. The Lumberjacks will begin the road week against the Aggies at 11 a.m. Friday, April 6, then the Bengals at noon Saturday before facing the Wildcats at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
