'Jacks Continue Big Sky Action In Oregon Against Portland State

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – After going undefeated at home the past four matches, the Northern Arizona women's tennis team will face a string of contests on the road including this weekend's Big Sky matchup against the Portland State Vikings.

The Lumberjacks and Vikings will go head to head Friday, March 9 for the 11th straight year, with Northern Arizona leading the series 16-1 overall.

The 'Jacks are now at the midway mark of season and are looking for their eighth consecutive win and third in the Big Sky Conference.

Northern Arizona is currently 7-2 on the season and 2-0 in conference with wins over Montana and Sacramento State.

This match will be the sole competition of the weekend for the Lumberjacks before continuing the season on the road next week.

The Vikings are currently 0-7 overall and have fallen to Big Sky opponents Montana, Montana State and Idaho State so far this season. Most recently Portland State was shut out 7-0 by PAC-12 opponent Washington. The last time the Vikings and Lumberjacks faced off was last season when the 'Jacks came out with a victorious 7-0 shutout. The seven-woman roster is led by head coach Jay Sterling who is in his ninth year with the Vikings.

Coming Up
Northern Arizona remains on the road for its next three matches against the UNLV Rebels, the Eastern Washington Eagles and the Idaho Vandals. The Lumberjacks will travel to Las Vegas first to compete against UNLV Thursday, March 15 at 10:30 a.m. The 'Jacks will then compete at Eastern Washington Saturday, March 17 and at Idaho Sunday, March 18. Both of those matches are set for 10 a.m.
