PHOENIX, Ariz. — The No. 1 Northern Arizona women's tennis team spent this afternoon preparing for the Big Sky Conference semifinals and will soon face No. 6 Weber State on Friday, April 27 at 8 a.m. at the Phoenix Tennis Center.
The Big Sky Conference tournament kicked off today with the quarterfinal matches between No. 3 Eastern Washington vs. No. 6 Weber State and No. 4 Idaho State vs. No. 5 Southern Utah.
The Weber State Wildcats advanced with a 4-3 comeback win after being down 3-1 against Eastern Washington and will now face the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks in the semifinals.
On the other side of the bracket, No. 2 Idaho will face No. 5 Southern Utah. The winners of tomorrow's matchups will advance to the championship Saturday, April 28.
"We are very excited to start the championships tomorrow," head coach
Maciej Bogusz said. "The team is playing their best tennis at the moment and can't wait to get on the court."
The last time the Lumberjacks and Wildcats went head to head, Northern Arizona defeated Weber State 6-1 sweeping all courts in doubles and garnering wins from
Hanneke Lodewijks,
Chiara Tomasetti,
Cora-Lynn von Dungern,
Eirene Granville and
Madi Moore in singles.
