NAU Women’s Tennis Advances to Big Sky Conference Championships

PHOENIX, Ariz. — In what will be a Big Sky Conference championship rematch, the No. 1 Northern Arizona Lumberjacks advanced to the finals and will face the No. 2 Idaho Vandals Saturday, April 28 at 8 a.m. after defeating Weber State in a 4-0 shutout.

This will be the third straight Big Sky Championship between the Lumberjacks and Vandals.

"The team played really well and took control against a strong Weber State roster," head coach Maciej Bogusz said.

The Lumberjacks dominated to start with Hanneke Lodewijks and Ellie Millard finishing first with a 6-1 win before Chiara Tomasetti and Madi Moore clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 win against WSU's Emily Tanner and Morgan Dickason.

Eirene Granville and Cora-Lynn von Dungern were leading at the No. 2 position 5-4 before the point was clinched.

"We were able to close out doubles and likewise singles," Bogusz said. "It was a team effort by everyone."

Already up 1-0, Northern Arizona's Granville continued the lead, defeating Wildcat McKenna Lloyd 6-2, 6-1. Freshman Millard then made it 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Dominique Beauvais.

It was down to four courts and Tomasetti stepped it up with a strong finish to solidify a 6-2, 6-4 win against Caitlin Herb. The sophomore clinched the win for the Lumberjacks, who now increase to 19-3 overall and are 12-0 against Big Sky opponents.

"I really tried to pull it all together for us," said Tomasetti. "But it was an overall team effort and everyone gave it their all. Now we just have to do it again."

The Lumberjacks last competed against the Vandals in March where they won a close 4-3 match in Idaho. Last season, the Vandals and 'Jacks met at this same spot where Idaho came out victorious with a 4-3 win and a Big Sky Conference championship title.
