LAS VEGAS, Nev. (September 21, 2018) –
The Northern Arizona women's tennis team notched four singles wins and two doubles wins on the first day of the UNLV Fall Invitational at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. Junior Chiara Tomasetti was the highlight of NAU's opening day in Las Vegas on Friday, winning both her singles and doubles matches.

Tomasetti defeated San Jose State's Tamara Culibrk, 6-3, 6-2, in singles but was straight dominant in doubles alongside senior Hanneke Lodewijks. Together, Tomasetti and Lodewijks cruised to an 8-1 victory over the Spartans' Lalita Devarakonda and Zara Lennon.

Sophomores Ellie Millard and Madi Moore and freshman Emilie Haakansson also earned singles wins on Friday with Millard and Moore winning in straight sets. Millard picked up her first singles victory of the fall, defeating Big Sky foe Zoe Tanti of Southern Utah, 6-2, 6-2. Moore knocked off Emma Bardet of Long Beach State, 6-3, 6-4, while Haakansson pulled out a three-set victory over UNLV's Jovana Kenic, 6-3, 2-6, 6-0.

Tomasetti (Flight One), Millard (Flight Two), Moore (Flight Three), Haakansson (Flight Four) and sophomore Cora-Lynn von Dungern (Flight Five) – who received a first round bye – will each play in their respective flight semifinals on Saturday.

In addition to Lodewijks and Tomasetti's doubles win, Haakansson and von Dungern posted a victory, blanking Southern Utah's Jessica Stefan and Daniela Cozzi, 6-0. Both Lumberjack pairings will compete in the semifinals as well tomorrow with Lodewijks and Tomasetti in Flight One and Haakansson and von Dungern in Flight Two.

Other results on the first day of the UNLV Fall Invitational included a pair of losses to the host's nationally-ranked opponents. Lodewijks fell in singles to No. 49 Aiwen Zhu, 7-6, 6-2. Zhu would go on to team with En-Pei Huang to defeat Millard and freshman Adrianna Sosnowska, 8-3, in doubles. Millard and Sosnowska's loss was to the Rebels' No. 37 ranked pair in the country.

Day two in Las Vegas will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday with semifinal action in both singles and doubles.
