LAS VEGAS, Nev. (September 22, 2018) – Junior
Chiara Tomasetti will play for both a singles and doubles championship after winning her semifinal matches on Saturday at the UNLV Fall Invitational. Tomasetti will compete for the Flight One Singles title, as well as the Flight One Doubles title with senior
Hanneke Lodewijks on Sunday to close the weekend tournament.
Tomasetti earned a hard-fought three-set victory in her semifinal singles match versus Natalia Munoz of Long Beach State. After winning the first set, 6-3, Tomasetti dropped the second set, 3-6. She proceeded to emerge victorious in the winner-take-all third set, 6-4. Together with Lodewijks, they won their doubles match over San Jose State's Savannah Sendar and Miyo Kobayashi, 8-4.
For Tomasetti, Sunday's championship match versus UNLV's Aiwen Zhu, ranked No. 49 in the nation, will be her second straight championship appearance of the fall in as many tournaments.
Freshman
Emilie Haakansson will also play for her second consecutive singles title after defeating Southern Utah's Daniela Cozzi in three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 6-0. In the Flight Four championship, Haakansson will square off against Long Beach State's Wiktoria Rutkowska.
Sophomore
Cora-Lynn von Dungern will be the third Northern Arizona women's tennis player to play in a final, and she will also meet a Rebel on their home court in the Flight Five championship after dispatching Kristina Baran of San Jose State, 6-3, 6-3. von Dungern will face UNLV's Alex Kalachova on Sunday.
Freshman
Adrianna Sosnowska picked up the Lumberjacks' fourth singles win of the day in the Flight Four consolation. She defeated Southern Utah's Jessica Stefan, 6-2, 7-5.
NAU was perfect in doubles play during Saturday's day two action, with each of its four pairings winning their respective matches. Also playing in Flight One, Sosnowska and sophomore
Ellie Millard defeated Munoz and Dominique Meyer of Long Beach State, 8-4, in the consolation bracket.
In the Flight Two consolation, von Dungern and Haakansson defeated Baran and Alba Pedrero Galindo of San Jose State by a 6-2 score. Senior
Eirene Granville and sophomore
Madi Moore edged out an 8-7 victory over Southern Utah's tandem of Charity Sagiao and Zoe Tanti.
The final day of the UNLV Fall Invitational at the Fertitta Tennis Complex will commence at 10 a.m. Sunday morning.
