DALLAS, Texas (January 13, 2019) – The Northern Arizona women's tennis team saved their best for last as they concluded the Metroplex Mania on Sunday with two doubles wins and two singles wins. NAU finished the weekend with four doubles and five singles victories over three days in Dallas.
"We got so much better as the weekend went on," said head coach
Ewa Bogusz. "Today was definitely our best and we were able to work some things out. We put ourselves through a variety of situations and we elevated in important moments. This prepared us for what's to come this spring season."
Of NAU's four total wins on Sunday, three came against Iowa. The Lumberjacks swept both of their doubles matches against the Hawkeyes starting with a hard-fought 7-6 victory by junior
Chiara Tomasetti and sophomore
Ellie Millard over Elise van Heuvelen Treadwell and Cloe Ruette at No. 1.

Emilie Haakansson proceeded to defeat the Iowa tandem of Danielle Bauers and Danielle Burich, 6-2, at the No. 2 spot.
Tomasetti picked up her second win of the day over her Big 10 foe, van Heuvelen Treadwell at No. 1 singles. Her 6-2, 7-6 straight set victory was her second consecutive win of the weekend.
NAU competed against opponents from Iowa and Northwestern State – last season's Southland Conference runner-up – on Sunday.
Millard notched her first singles win of the season against the Lady Demons' Rhea Verma. Millard earned a three-set win at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 1-6, 6-2.
Northwestern State picked up wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles to round out day three's results.
NAU will begin its dual season next weekend in Tempe with a pair of matches. The Lumberjacks will face UC Davis on a neutral court next Sunday before they take on Arizona State on Monday. Both matches will be contested at the Whiteman Tennis Center at 11 a.m. on both days.
