OGDEN, Utah (January 16, 2019) – Junior
Chiara Tomasetti earned the Big Sky's first Women's Tennis Player of the Week award of the season on Wednesday after compiling two singles wins and two doubles wins this past weekend at the Metroplex Mania. The award is her fourth of her career.
Tomasetti, the only nationally-ranked singles player in the conference, lived up to that status as the Northern Arizona women's tennis team opened the spring season in Dallas, Texas last weekend. Tomasetti, played at the No. 1 singles position, went 2-1 in singles action at the top of the Lumberjack lineup.
After dropping her first match of the weekend, Tomasetti rebounded with a pair of straight set victories. The No. 75 ranked player from Roesrath, Germany defeated Anastasia Abramyan of BYU, 6-4, 6-3, on Saturday before posting an impressive win over Iowa's Elise van Heuvelen Treadwell on Sunday. Tomasetti knocked off her Hawkeye opponent, 6-2, 7-6.
Tomasetti also posted a 2-1 record in doubles, pairing with sophomore
Ellie Millard at No. 1. Tomasetti and Millard defeated their opposition from BYU (6-3) and Iowa (7-6).
The Lumberjack women's tennis team plays their first two dual matches of the spring this upcoming Sunday and Monday versus UC Davis and Arizona State in Tempe. Both matches will start at 11 a.m.
