Los Angeles, Calif. (January 20, 2019) – The Northern Arizona women's Diving team took part in the platform event on Jan. 19 in the UCLA Diving Invite. The Lumberjacks made up six of the 44 divers from the platform event. Unfortunately, all six of NAU's divers missed out on making the finals for the platform as only the top 12 finishers moved on.
Northern Arizona's highest finisher in the event was
Olivia Payne who finished 16th. Payne, NAU's platform specialist, was able to battle all day on the platform as she was on the cusp throughout the entire event of making the finals but would end up eventually missing it.
The other Lumberjack divers placed between 25th and 34th, with the highest one being
Christina Torrente, who finished with a score of 181.10. Following Torrente, was
Katie Conn and
Tatiana Kurach in 27th and 28th. The final two 'Jacks were
Jenny Cheetham and
Alyssa Jones who placed 30th and 34th.
"Although finishing in 34th, I am very proud of Alyssa as she had a solid day as she was able to score 167.65 even though it was one of her first times performing on the platform," NAU associate head coach
Nikki Huffman said.
Northern Arizona will be back in action on Sunday, Jan. 20, as they compete on the 1-meter in the UCLA Diving Invite.
